USS "Bignonia" (1863) was a steamer purchased by the
Union Navy during theAmerican Civil War .She was used by the Union Navy as a
tugboat in support of the Union Navy blockade of Confederate waterways.Acquired by the Union Navy in Cleveland, Ohio
"Bignonia", a screw tug, was built in
1863 atCleveland, Ohio , as "Mary Grandy"; purchased by the Union Navy2 August 1864 ; and commissioned14 September 1864 , Acting Volunteer Lieutenant W. D. Roath in command.Civil War service
Until April
1865 , "Bignonia" served with theNorth Atlantic Blockading Squadron as a tug. She was reassigned to theWest Gulf Blockading Squadron in April1865 .Post-war decommissioning and sale
"Bignonia" was decommissioned there and sold
