22nd South African Parliament
- 22nd South African Parliament
The 22nd Parliament of the Republic of South Africa was elected by the April 27, 1994 elections. It was the first multi-racial parliament in South Africa's history; Nelson Mandela's ANC formed a coalition government with Frederik Willem de Klerk's NP and Mangosuthu Buthelezi's IFP. The three houses from previous parliaments were replaced with the re-introduced Senate and National Assembly.
In 1997, the Senate was replaced by the National Council of Provinces, which continues to serve as the upper house of South Africa's Parliament.
