Ada is a city in Norman County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,657 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Norman CountyGR|6.

Minnesota State Highways 9 and 200 are two of the main arterial routes in the city.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.3 square miles (3.5 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 1,657 people, 749 households, and 432 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,234.4 people per square mile (477.4/km²). There were 835 housing units at an average density of 622.1/sq mi (240.6/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 96.44% White, 0.06% African American, 0.66% Native American, 0.54% Asian, 1.03% from other races, and 1.27% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.78% of the population.

There were 749 households out of which 26.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.2% were married couples living together, 5.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 42.2% were non-families. 39.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 24.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.19 and the average family size was 2.98.

In the city the population was spread out with 24.5% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 25.0% from 25 to 44, 20.0% from 45 to 64, and 24.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 88.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $29,583, and the median income for a family was $43,162. Males had a median income of $30,924 versus $23,088 for females. The per capita income for the city was $16,921. About 7.0% of families and 13.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.5% of those under age 18 and 21.5% of those age 65 or over.
