Gerard J. Tellis, Ph.D Michigan, is Professor of
Marketing , Neely Chair of American Enterprise, and Director of theCenter for Global Innovation at theMarshall School of Business , theUniversity of Southern California , Los Angeles, CA. He holds a Bachelors degree in Chemistry from theUniversity of Bombay , a Post-Graduate Diploma inBusiness Management from Xavier Labor Relations Institute in Jamshedpur, India, and a Ph.D. from theUniversity of Michigan , Ann Arbor.He has been Visiting Chair of Marketing, Strategy, and Innovation at the
Judge Business School ,Cambridge University , UK, Distinguished Visitor,Erasmus University , Rotterdam, and Sales Development Manager forJohnson & Johnson . Tellis specializes in the areas of global innovation, market entry, new product growth, advertising, promotion, and pricing. He has published widely on these topics in many journals including the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Advertising Research, Marketing Science andSloan Management Review . His research on advertising has been noted in the professional and popular press, both nationally and internationally. He has won several awards for his research and teaching. In particular, he has twice won theMaynard Award for most significant contribution to Marketing thought in the Journal of Marketing, theOdell Award for best paper in the Journal of Marketing Research, and theBass Award for best paper in Marketing Science. His recent book, "Will and Vision: How Latecomers Grow to Dominate Markets", (co-authored with Peter Golder), was rated byHarvard Business Review as one of the best business books of 2001. He is on the editorial review board of theJournal of Marketing Research .His books on market entry, innovation and advertising: "Effective Advertising: Understanding When, How, and Why Advertising Works (Marketing for a New Century)" published 2003, "Will & Vision: How Latecomers Grow to Dominate Markets" published 2001, "The SAGE Handbook of Advertising, Advertising and Sales Promotion Strategy" published 2007, among others, have been translated into several languages worldwide. Tellis consults with major multinational corporations and has been on the editorial review boards of the
