Denville Hall

Denville Hall

Denville Hall is a retirement home for professional actors, situated in Northwood, Hillingdon, London, which was designed by Acanthus LW Architects.

Founded in 1925 as a charity for actors by Alfred Denville, impresario, actor-manager and MP, he dedicated the Hall to the acting profession, in memory of his son Jack, who had died at the age of 26 after an injury on stage reactivated earlier damage sustained in World War I. The home is available to people over the age of 70, offering residential, nursing, convalescent, dementia and palliative care treatment. Residents can stay long or short term, and physiotherapy is also provided.[1][2]

The Hall is now owned by the Actors' Charitable Trust. Many well known and lesser known mostly British actors and actresses have spent their retirement years there,[3] including: Rose Hill, Carmen Silvera, Dulcie Gray, John Woodnutt, Brenda Cowling, Peggy Mount, Pat Coombs and the theatre designer Margaret Harris.
