Ali Muhsin Al-Barwani (
13 January 1919 inStone Town –20 March 2006 inMuscat ,Oman ) was aZanzibar i politician and diplomat under the Sultanate of Zanzibar. He was the first and onlyArab foreign minister of an independent Zanzibar before the establishment of thePeople's Republic of Zanzibar . When his government was overthrown in January 1964 Barwani was held in detention centers acrossTanzania until his release in 1974, when he fled toKenya as arefugee . After obtaining refugee status, Barwani moved toCairo then back to Kenya then toDubai in theUnited Arab Emirates . In the UAE, Barwani translated theQu'ran into Swahili (Swahili kiUnguja)Qur'ani Tukufu for which he is most prominently known.Education
Barwani graduated from
