Normanhurst West Public School

Normanhurst West Public School is a primary school located in Thornleigh, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. This school has around 375 pupils, and the principal is Mr Brent Kunkler.

Attributes and notable qualities

Normanhurst West (Normo West) is not only a popular school, but it has many attributes that complement it, for instance, its bands. The training band is a starting spot for young musicians, and, as the children get more and more talented, they move up to the concert band. The bands are for years 3 to 6.

Another musical group at Normanhurst West is the choir. Taught by Ms. Kate Andrews, the choir is for years 2 to 6, and nearly 50 children attended the first lesson at the beginning of this year.

The school is starting a debating team for years 5 and 6.

"Normo" West is an active sporting school, with a cricket team, a netball team, and a soccer team for years 5 and 6. Years 3 to 6 also have sport outside of school, such as basketball, bowling, Australian rules football, swimming, and several more.

The canteen has won diamond awards for the comparatively healthy food served. They have been in the Sydney Morning Herald several times for the quality of their food.

The girls' summer uniform is a tunic or culottes in green and white. Boys' summer uniform is a white short-sleeved shirt and grey shorts.

Girls' winter uniform is a tunic or pants in green tartan with a white blouse. Boys' winter is long-sleeved white shirt and grey trousers. The jumper and jacket is green with the school's emblem on it.

The sports uniform is a yellow polo shirt with the school emblem in either blue, red or green for the school houses (see below). This shirt goes with green shorts, skirt, or a skort.

The school houses are Kookaburras (blue), Koalas (green) and Kangaroos (red). Kookas has repeatedly won carnivals in past years, such as the swimming carnival, athletics carnival, and cross country carnival.
