Skj (trigraph)

Skj (trigraph)

Skj is a trigraph used to represent the voiceless postalveolar fricative IPA|/ʃ/, in the Norwegian and Faroese languages..

It sounds just like the English "sh" in the word "fi"sh".

In Norwegian, it is found in words like, "kan"skj"e" (maybe) and "te"skj"e" (tea spoon).

In Faroese, it's found in words like "at "skj"óta" (to shoot) and "skj"óra" (magpie).

In Swedish, it's one of several spellings for the "sje" sound IPA|/ɧ/, though only used in five words.
