In Singapore, the causeway connects with Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE). The highway is also a part of Federal Route JKR|1 and also a part of theJohor Bahru expressway network.Opened to traffic in 1985, Skudai Highway used to be a tolled highway until March 2004 when the federal government decided to abolish the Senai toll plaza. Previously, the concession of the highway was held by
PLUS Expressway Berhad as a part of the North-South Expressway project. The Tampoi North Interchange has been upgraded to a Double U-Turn interchange. Construction began in 2005 and was completed in 2008. Meanwhile, Skudai North junctions between route JKR|1 and JKR|5 has been upgraded to trumpet interchanges. Construction began in 2005 and was completed on August 2007.
