Kousuke Asazuki

Kousuke Asazuki

Kousuke Asazuki (浅月香介, "Asazuki Kōsuke") is a fictional character from the anime and manga series . In the anime adaptation, he is voiced by Takeshi Kusao in Japanese and Greg Ayres in English.

Description

Kousuke, a 17-year-old Blade Child with (a seeming mixture of) red-brown-purple-pink hair and green eyes, is the most violent and arrogant of all the Blade Children. He kills enemies with no hesitation at all. He is also very stubborn and aggressive, choosing to face the Hunters head on instead of hide from them. Also, he was the one who killed Sonobe Takashi in the hospital. Kousuke made his first major appearances in chapters 8-10, wherein he challenged Ayumu to a game of guessing which card he picked from a deck of 52 cards. From then on, he became a major character in the story.

Relationships with Other Characters

*Rio TakeuchiIn the beginning of the series while Rio was in the hospital, he is usually together with her, signifying either a close friendship or partnership between the two. Although Rio calls him "idiot" or "stupid" (as does Ryoko,) in reality, Kousuke is actually very intelligent, even catching up to secondary school just by reading books.

*Ryoko Takamachi

He is also a childhood friend of Ryoko, but is frequently used as her punching bag and personal slave ever since he moved to Tsukiomi High School (where most of the Blade Children, plus Ayumu and Hiyono, are studying). Aside from that, Kousuke seems to care deeply for her, as does she for him, which can be taken romantically. Probably a concrete example is during their fight with Kanone at school (chapter 37), wherein he, Ryoko and Rio were resting after facing Kanone. Ryoko scolds Kousuke for not abandoning her and attacking Kanone, since she was upset he got thrown out a window, but he replies, "There is no way I could abandon you."

In the hospital after the Kanone arc, Ryoko comes to visit him. She asks him why she can't call him "big brother" he says, "I can't make a move on my little sister," and asks her to please let him dream about it. He then squeezes her hand, and she blushes.

Kousuke is very protective of Ryoko and is often putting her safety above his, even though she doesn't want him too. A good example is in the anime when the two are cornered by a hunter and about to be shot while they were hiding under a train. Kousuke shouts for her to run and shoves her away while he charges the hunter head on. In another part in the manga, when Ryoko is bleeding badly on the ground, Kousuke becomes infuriated with himself at how he couldn't protect her.

*Eyes Rutherford

His relationship with Eyes is more of an untrusting one, which usually results in arguments between them. But Kousuke still seems to have at least a little amount of respect for him, even teaming up with Ayumu to save Eyes from an assassination by a Hunter during one of his concerts.

*Ayumu Narumi

As for his relationship with Ayumu, Kousuke seems to regard him with more hatred than the other Blade Children do, although they occasionally join forces for a common goal. He knows that Ayumu is allergic to hornet's poison through Kiyotaka, and he uses this against Ayumu during the game he set up (guess the card, chapters 9-10). Ayumu is one of Kousuke's enemies and a character whom Kousuke does not often interact with.

In The End

As his final path in life, he chose an "ordinary" path, in which he goes to college to furthermore pursue his studies. Even then, Kousuke still remains to be together with Ryoko.
