12-oxophytodienoate reductase

12-oxophytodienoate reductase

In enzymology, a 12-oxophytodienoate reductase (EC number|1.3.1.42) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction

:8- [(1R,2R)-3-oxo-2-{(Z)-pent-2-enyl}cyclopentyl] octanoate + NADP+ ightleftharpoons (15Z)-12-oxophyto-10,15-dienoate + NADPH + H+

Thus, the two substrates of this enzyme are [8- [(1R,2R)-3-oxo-2-{(Z)-pent-2-enyl}cyclopentyl] octanoate] and NADP+, whereas its 3 products are (15Z)-12-oxophyto-10,15-dienoate, NADPH, and H+.

This enzyme belongs to the family of oxidoreductases, specifically those acting on the CH-CH group of donor with NAD+ or NADP+ as acceptor. The systematic name of this enzyme class is 8- [(1R,2R)-3-oxo-2-{(Z)-pent-2-enyl}cyclopentyl] octanoate:NADP+ 4-oxidoreductase. This enzyme is also called 12-oxo-phytodienoic acid reductase.
