Muhammad Ibrahim Khan Jhagra was a former governor (acting) of the
North-West Frontier Province ofPakistan in 1950. Well known for joiningMuhammad Ali Jinnah movement forPakistani independence and known by the name Jhagra Khan for his resolve and popularity in thefrontier . Khan was a former Congressite and was responsible for gaining support for thePakistan Muslim League (PML) and helping win support forAbdul Qayyum Khan , the firstChief Minister of the province after independence. He was the General Secretary of the PML until he died of throat cancer. He died in England where he was supposed to be treated; he received condolences from many heads of nations includingQueen Elizabeth II . He was well known in his province and was one of the only few leaders who supportedIndian independence from the British. He was told to take part in provincial elections to become Chief Minister but declined on a number of occasions and became Governor during the time whenPrime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan was assassinated; he took charge to not let chaos break loose in the province since the frontier is home to many rebellion extremist forces. Khan's death came as a huge blow to the country and province in particular as he was the only figure keeping up support for the PML party. After his death the Qayyum separated and formed his own branch of PML. After him the next general secretary of the PML was later to be former Prime MinisterZulfikar Ali Bhutto . He is buried at his hometown ofJhagra in the North West Frontier Province, close to Peshawar. He is the father ofIftikhar Ahmad Khan Jhagra , Member Of Provincial Assembly Of NWFP andSaleem Ahmad Khan Jhagra , secretary of local and rural affairs.###@@@KEY@@@###succession box |title=
