I Know You Rider

"I Know You Rider" is a traditional woman's blues song. Well-known versions include those by Janis Joplin, James Taylor (as "Circle Around the Sun", on his first album), and Hot Tuna. Joan Baez recorded a version on her 1961 album Joan Baez, Vol. 2. The song was also covered by Slightly Stoopid off their 2008 album Slightly Not Stoned Enough To Eat Breakfast Yet Stoopid. The Byrds also covered this song. "I Know You Rider" was also a staple of the Grateful Dead's live shows, usually as the second half of a medley with "China Cat Sunflower." This segue was later covered by Bruce Hornsby and The Range, out of their song "The Red Plains."

The music and melody are also similar to Lucille Bogan's "B.D. Woman Blues", although the lyrics are completely different; "Woman's Blues" is occasionally given as an alternate title. [ [http://www.robingreenstein.com/iow/lyrics_knowyourider.html "Know You Rider" lyrics on robingreenstein.com] ]
