VHS release by the American industrial/alternative rock bandChildren of the Anachronistic Dynasty (C.A.D.). It consists of the band's only known concert, performed onpublic access television onApril 17 ,1987 inGrand Rapids, Michigan . It marked the first appearance of the band'squintet line-up, consisting ofMaynard James Keenan (vocals), Kevin Horning (lead guitar ), Todd Horning (rhythm guitar ), Stan Henderson (bass, occasional backing vocals), and Tom Geluso (drums) (with Todd Horning and Geluso recruited from Keenan and Kevin Horning's previous band,TexA.N.S. ).Broadcast
The concert was recorded by GRTV, one of Grand Rapids' two public access stations, during the Peace Day festival on
April 17 ,1987 (coincidentally, Keenan's 23rd birthday). It was shot from multiple cameras, sometimes jumping to and from various cameras repeatedly. Effects were also mixed in with the video, including what is commonly known as the "psychedelic swirl", and multiplefade s.During the concert, both Todd Horning and Henderson use "headless"
Steinberger guitars throughout the show. Keenan wears a blackleotard ,sandal s, and has ablonde mullet, a stark contrast to Keenan's stage attire in his later bands Tool andA Perfect Circle (in which he would often appear shirtless, inboxer shorts , and bald), with some fans of Tool expressing shock and, at times, disbelief. It is thought by some that this may be a contributing factor to Keenan's decision not to re-issue any material from Children of the Anachronistic Dynasty.Interview
Following the concert, a short interview is included with Keenan being asked questions by a hostess backstage, saying that C.A.D. would perform at
The Intersection "next weekend", hinting that C.A.D. may have played more than once. (Keenan, at the end of the concert, jokingly announced, "See you at next year'sRainbow Gathering " to the crowd).Track listing
Songs from both "Fingernails" and "Dog.House" were performed, including new renditions of "25 Hours" and "Burn About Out" (both from "Fingernails"). The new rendition of "Burn About Out" features the same basic melody and first verse as one of Tool's (Keenan's later band) first well-known songs, the
1993 single, "Sober".All songs written by Maynard James Keenan and Kevin Horning, unless noted.
