Sudhir Mainkar (Musician & Musicologist)

Pandit Sudhir Mainkar is a musician and musicologist who has authoreda book and several articles on the tabla. The book, entitled "Tabla vadan : Kala aur Shastra" received the Homi Jehangir Bhabha Award from Maharashtra Rajya Hindi Sahitya Academy for the year 2000.

He was trained by Ustad Inam Ali Khan of Delhi gharana and Pandit Sudhirkumar Saxena of Ajrada gharana. A Bachelor of Arts and Commerce, and Sangeet Alankar in tabla. He served the Life Insurance Corporation of India and retired as Senior Divisional Manager. Pandit Sudhir Mainkar has rendered yeoman's service to the field of education by conducting training programmes and workshops for students of tab/a. He has also contributed in the preparation of model curricula for various courses in tabla offered by different Universities in India. Furthermore, He has conducted a number of lecture-demonstrations for senior executives from the insurance and banking industries on the subject of "How to cope executive stress with the help of music".

As a nominated member on the Governing Council of the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandai, Shri Mainkar was involved in the task of making its curricula comparable to that of the University Grants Commission. * Written a book on " tabla " under title "Tabla Vadan: Kala aur Shastra", published by A.B.Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, Miraj. The book has received an Award for the year 2000 from Maharashtra Rajya Hindi Sahitya Academy, Govt. of Maharashtra. The Book is considered as an essential reading material for the Graduation and post graduation students of Tabla in Indian Music Universities
* Conducting workshops for students of Tabla in music universities, A.B.Gandharva Maha Vidyalaya and other Music teaching institutions
* Occasionally write in Music journals in Hindi and Marathi
* Participated in Music seminars organized by Sangeet Research Academy and other Music institutions
* Member of the Academic Council of Bhatkhande Sangeet Institute, Lucknow
* Member of Syllabus Drafting Committee for Tabla of Music department, Mumbai University.
