Caelius Rhodiginus

Caelius Rhodiginus

Caelius Rhodiginus was a Venetian writer, born about 1450 (some accounts say 1469), died 1525.

His original name was Ludovico or Lodovico Celio Ricchieri. He studied at Ferrara and Padua, and he was for a time a professor in the Academy at Milan. He took the name Rhodiginus from his birthplace, Rovigo. (Hugh James Rose, "A New General Biographical Dictionary",1853) his pupil Julius Caesar Scaliger described him as the Varro of his age.
