Edmund “Ed” or “Eddie” Kelly (born October 24, 1948 in Dublin, Ireland) is a former U.S.-Irish soccer player. He played in the American Soccer League and one season in the North American Soccer League and earned two caps with the U.S. national team. He now coaches the Boston College men’s soccer team.

Personal

Kelly grew up in Ireland. In 1969, he joined the United States Air Force, serving until 1973

Playing

Kelly played professionally for eight years. In 1975, he played a single season with the Hartford Bicentennials in the North American Soccer League. He also played in the American Soccer League.

National team

Kelly earned two caps with the United States in August 1975 at the Mexico City Cup. His first game was a 6-0 loss to Argentia on August 21. His second was a 2-0 loss to Mexico on August 24. [ [http://www.rsssf.com/tablesu/usa-intres-det70.html USA - Details of International Matches 1970-1979 ] ]

Coaching

After retiring from playing professionally, Kelly becomes an assistant coach at Fairleigh Dickinson University. In 1985, Seton Hall hired Kelly as its men’s soccer coach. In his three years at Seton Hall, his team compiled a 40-13-3 record and was named the 1986 Division I Coach of the Year Kelly left Seton Hall to become the head coach of the New Jersey Eagles of the newly established American Soccer League. Kelly led the Eagles to a 15-5 record, top in the league. However, the team fell to the Washington Diplomats in the first round of the playoffs. Following the loss, Kelly left the Eagles to become the new head coach at Boston College where he remains today.
