He was a nephew of
Anselm of Canterbury and a monk of Chiusi. He was alsoabbot of Saint Saba monastery inRome and a papal legate toEngland from 1115 to 1119. In 1121 he was elected Abbot ofBury St. Edmunds Abbey .Knowles "Heads of Religious Houses" p. 32] He was elected to thesee of London aboutMarch 22 1136 and was enthroned atLondon in 1137, but his election was quashed byPope Innocent II in 1138 and he returned to Bury St. Edmunds.
