Royden Glade Derrick (born
1915-09-07 ) is anemeritus general authority ofThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church).Derrick was born in
Salt Lake City ,Utah . He received anengineering degree from theUniversity of Utah and established asteel manufacturing company in Utah. He later served on theboard of regents of the University of Utah and received anhonorary doctorate from Utah in 1965. In 1973, he was awarded theJesse Knight Industrial Citizenship Award fromBrigham Young University .From 1966 to 1971, Derrick was the second assistant to
David Lawrence McKay in the general superintendency of the LDS Church's Sunday School organization. From 1973 to 1976 he was the president of theEngland Leeds Mission of the church, and from 1976 to 1977 he was the president of theIreland Dublin Mission.In 1977, Derrick became one of the founding members of the
First Quorum of Seventy of the church. From 1980 to 1984, he was one of the seven presidents of the seventy. Derrick served actively as ageneral authority of the church until 1989, when he was givenemeritus status and released from active duties. From 1984 to 1987, during his tenure as a general authority, Derrick was the president of theSeattle Washington Temple .The
planetarium at the College of Physical & Mathematical Sciences ofBrigham Young University is named the Royden G. Derrick Planetarium.References
