pistol made bySturm, Ruger .Design details
As the first striker-fired pistol by Ruger, the SR9 was introduced in
October 2007 and is intended to be used forself defense and law enforcement. It has a pre-set trigger similar toGlock 's "Safe action ", meaning the striker is partially cocked during the reloading cycle, and then fully cocked when the trigger is pulled. The slide is either brushed or blackened
stainless steel .The frame of the Ruger SR9 is fiberglass-reinforced nylon. This means the frame will not warp in heat or fail due to extreme use. Ruger recently introduced a new version of the SR9 that has an OD Green frame and black slide. This is a real benefit to shooters with small hands. The SR9 has a
picatinny rail for mountinglaser s andflashlight s, it also has an ambidextrous manual safety, loaded chamber indicator and striker indicator. magazine disconnect , and if dry fired without the magazine in the gun, it will cause unnecessary wear to the striker block. However, the SR9's disconnect can be deactivated simply by removing the disconnect link. The magazine design is poor and very stiff; as is the magazine release. Ruger states they will rectify these problems as part of the announced recall (see below)Recall
On
April 9 ,2008 , Rugerrecalled the SR9 because under certain conditions, it can fire if dropped with the manual safety off and a round in the chamber. This can occur in pistols manufactured from October 2007 to April 2008. Ruger designed a new trigger group that prevents firing when dropped. [ [http://ruger.com/Firearms/N-Firearms_News.html Ruger Firearms News ] ] Ruger initially announced that starting in mid-May 2008, they would retrofit SR9 pistols with the serial number prefix "330" (330-xxxxx) with the new trigger group and a spare magazine free of charge (approximately 11,000 pistols). The retrofit was continually delayed due to design difficulties and delays from suppliers. Ruger began shipping recall boxes to customers in July 2008.
