Ross McGowan (born
23 April 1982 ) is an English professionalgolf er.McGowan was born in
Basildon inEssex , although he grew up inBanstead ,Surrey and went to school inEpsom . After finishing sixth form, he went to university in theUnited States and played collegiate golf at theUniversity of Tennessee . McGowan won the 2006English Amateur . He defeatedOliver Fisher in the final by the score of 5&4. Shortly after that he turned professional. McGowan led the Challenge Tour's 2007 money list going into theApulia San Domenico Grand Final . He finished in a tie for 28th place though and ended up falling out of first.Michael Lorenzo-Vera won the tournament and the Order of Merit title. He is playing on theEuropean Tour in 2008, and he moved into the top one hundred of theOfficial World Golf Rankings in January of that year.In June 2008 he played in his first major tournament, the U.S. Open at
Torrey Pines , making the cut and eventually finishing 77th.Amateur wins
