Kennesaw State University Center for Election Systems

The "Center for Election Systems" at Kennesaw State University founded in 2002 for the purpose of supporting the Elections Division of the Office of the Secretary of state of Georgia, in the statewide deployment of a uniform voting system.

History

Starting in 1988 faculty and staff members of KSU have certified the State's voting system. At the same time Kennesaw State was a growing center of higher education in Georgia with over 10,000 students in 1990. Because of KSU expertise in Georgia's Direct-recording electronic (DRE) voting systems the university asked the Secretary of State to grant permission to create the Center for Election Systems.

In 2002 the KSU Center for Election Systems was created by the Secretary of State. The Center is completely funded by the state of Georgia. During the creation of the center it was charged with assisting with the deployment of the DRE voting technology and to ensure the integrity of Georgia's voting system by providing technical and training support for all of Georgia's 159 counties.

Operations

The center has worked closely with the Elections Division of the Secretary of State and local election officials to successfully complete over 3000 elections. The center has eight full time staff members including an Executive Director, Director, Associate Director, two Technical Coordinators and an Elections Coordinator. Additionally, employees of the Secretary of States office help build ballots for elections.

It is operated by the Computer Science and Information Systems department under the College of Science and Mathematics.
