Warner Bros. ' live-action "Joe McDoakes "short subject s from 1942 to 1956. Television viewers recognize him as the voice ofGeorge Jetson inHanna-Barbera 's 1962prime-time animatedtelevision series "The Jetsons " and its 1980s revival.From the early 1940s, O'Hanlon was a character comedian in feature films, usually playing the hero's streetwise, cynical friend. He appeared in features for various studios while continuing in the Joe McDoakes role for Warners. After the McDoakes series lapsed in 1956, O'Hanlon returned to character work, mostly in television (one of his rare post-McDoakes movie appearances is in 1957's "
Bop Girl Goes Calypso "). In 1966, he appeared oppositeJackie Gleason as Ralph Kramden's loudmouthed "bum brother-in-law", on Gleason's first TV show of the 1966-67 season.O'Hanlon married Nancy, a fellow actor, and had one child by her (actor George O'Hanlon, Jr.).
O'Hanlon Sr. died of a
stroke in 1989, soon after he completed recording his voice tracks for "". The film was released byUniversal Pictures in 1990 and dedicated to the memory of both O'Hanlon and co-starMel Blanc , who died later in 1989.External links
