Aaron Ward (uncle of Elijah Ward) was a United States Representative from New York. He was born in Ossining, New York, on July 5, 1790. He completed preparatory studies in Mount Pleasant Academy, served in the War of 1812 as lieutenant and captain in the Twenty-ninth Infantry, studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced practice at Ossining. He served as district attorney for Westchester County. He served in the State militia as colonel, brigadier general, and major general.
Ward was elected to the Nineteenth and Twentieth Congresses (March 4, 1825-March 3, 1829), elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-second, Twenty-third, and Twenty-fourth Congresses (March 4, 1831-March 3, 1837) and was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-seventh Congress (March 4, 1841-March 3, 1843). He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the Twenty-eighth Congress, a delegate to the State constitutional convention in 1846, an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for secretary of state in 1855,and a trustee of Mount Pleasant Academy. Ward died at the home of his son-in-law in Georgetown, D.C. on March 2, 1867. His interment was in Dale Cemetery in Ossining.
