homepage = [http://www.alechunterhumanitiescollege.co.uk/ Alec Hunter Humanities College]Alec Hunter Humanities College (formerly Alec Hunter High School) is a mixed Secondary school in
Braintree, Essex . The current headteacher, Andrew Hutchinson is now in his third year of lead at the college. In recent years the school has seen many major transformations, such as the total refurbishment of the 'Expressive Arts' department, providing 2 sound proofed music demonstation rooms, 4 practice rooms, and a state of the art Drama studio, and better changing facilities for the sports hall. The science department has also recently been updated, with all 7 science laboratories situated in the same section of the school. There were older science rooms in the main block, though they were changed into what is now a pair of wonderful Citizenship classrooms.
The school has some really good facilities now, such as a fully functioning Media centre. This enables Media to be taught as a GCSE, which is better for pupils as they do not have to travel to local colleges to study this course.
Along with Humanities specialism (English, Citizenship & History) the school also has a 'Healthy Schools status' which is based on many factors within the school. The PE department offer a wide range of clubs, all of which are free of charge (within reason), and anyone from within the school can take part. The canteen serves 'Healthy Food' and also takes ideas for students for new dishes regularly. The school is in partnership with many other establishments in Braintree, and across the rest of the world, recently hosting 4 teachers from China for a month.
A wide range of subjects are on offer for students to study at GCSE level. These include
English LiteratureEnglish LanguageMathsStatisticsCore ScienceApplied ScienceAdditional Science

And another of other subjects which are run at Braintree College, such as Brick Laying, Carpenting and Woodwork.
The school has many strong departments, a good senior leadership team, and a Red Cross Steering group led by a newly appointed community coordinator. Many events have been organised, such as The Wellbeing Fayre, Grandparents Day, and various talent contests and shows. a previous show hosted at the end of the school year 2007 to 2008 was extremely successful, thatnks to the minds and enforcements of the one and currently only Drama teacher.
The school has no religious status, which menas it is not prejudice against people of any ethnic background.
Alumni
Liam Howlett - frontman and leader of dance/trance band 'The Prodigy'.
