Dillon Fence

Dillon Fence

Dillon Fence was an American rock band in the mid 1980s to 1995. They have been described as "a key band in the tres chic Chapel Hill, North Carolina, scene".[citation needed]

The band released three full-length albums (Rosemary, Outside In and Living Room Scene) and two CD singles on Mammoth Records. They also released an EP "Dillon Fence" on their own label, Nocar. In 2004, MoRisen released their greatest hits CD, which included an EP of new material.

Singer/songwriter Greg Humphreys' songs have been covered by bands like Hootie and the Blowfish, who used to open for them, and Letters to Cleo. The band was also made up of drummer Scott Carle, guitarist Kent Alpin and bassist Chris Goode. Trent Pitts played drums on the original EP.

In December 2000, they regrouped for a 3-date tour and recorded a double-CD album Live at the Cat's Cradle. They also did summer reunion tours in 2004 and 2005 to support the greatest hits album.

Greg Humphreys now leads a soul-funk group called Hobex. Scott Carle was in Collapsis (Cherry/Universal) in 2000. Later he joined the B-Sides with Ken Mosher (Squirrel Nut Zippers) & future members of The Never. Next was Marat, a heavy rock band on MoRisen records which included members of the Veldt (DesWhite), Snatches of Pink (MikeRank) and on vocals, John Ensslin from What Peggy Wants. As of 2008, Scott is playing with Bull City, a 4-piece rock outfit, and also with Lost In The Trees, a 13-piece orchestra on Trekky records. 'Lost In The Trees' is fronted by Ari Picker, who was in the B-sides and later The Never. Kent Alphin formed Granger after Dillon Fence and included S.Carle and G.Gilbert. They released a CD on Shanachie records. Kent is still writing and recording songs as of 2008. Chris Goode was in Straddlecat while in Seattle, WA. They recorded two CDs of material ranging from punk to pop and rock. Chris also records and writes new material.

Dillon Fence still perform on a semi-regular basis in the Southeastern United States.

  • Trivia - Dillon Fence derives its name from a regionally famous landmark fence made by local artists in the town of Dillon, SC. Prior to more recent highway bypass construction, Dillon was, and still is to a lessened extent, a fuel stop on the Charlotte - Wilmington - Myrtle Beach circuit traveled by many unsigned and local bands.
