She debuted in the early 1990s, appearing on albums recorded by ¡Loca! and Jah Wobble.[1] In 1993, Atlas joined ethnic electronica group Transglobal Underground as the lead singer and belly dancer.[2]
Atlas released her solo debut album Diaspora in March 1995. The album reached number 123 in the United Kingdom.[3] Halim, her second album, was released in May 1997. In the UK, the album reached number 128 and produced two singles.[3] Atlas' third album, Gedida, was released in March 1999. It reached number nineteen in France and produced her first top-twenty single, "Mon Amie La Rose".[4] Ayeshteni, which was released in May 2001, reached the top fifty in Belgium and France and produced three singles.[4][5]
After a two-year hiatus, Atlas released her sixth album Something Dangerous. It reached number ninety-eight in France and number thirteen on the United States Billboard Top World Music Albums Chart.[4][6] The Best of Natacha Atlas, a compilation album, and its companion video album were released in 2005. Released in April 2006, Atlas' seventh album Mish Maoul reached number twelve on the US Top World Music Albums Chart.[6] She released her eighth album Ana Hina in May 2008. The album reached number 162 in France.[4]
