- Fox Cities
The Fox Cities of northeast Wisconsin are the cities, towns and villages along the Fox River as it flows from
Lake Winnebago northward into Green Bay. Together they form the core of the third largest metropolitan area ofWisconsin with a population exceeding 220,000. One of the nation’s longtime leading centers of papermaking and printing, the area is one of the 50 top manufacturing regions of the nation.The Fox Cities communities include the City of Appleton, City of Kaukauna, City of Menasha, City of Neenah, Town of Kaukauna, Town of Menasha, Town of Neenah, Town of Vanden Broek, Town of Buchanan, Town of Clayton, Town of Freedom, Town of Grand Chute, Town of Greenville, Town of Harrison, Village of Combined Locks, Village of Hortonville, Village of Kimberly, Village of Little Chute, and the Village of Sherwood.
The area is well known for its excellent shopping. In fact, local marketers have recently begun calling it "Wisconsin's Shopping Place," playing on the fact that it has the second largest mall in the state. Appleton, the largest of the Fox Cities, is also known as the
hometown ofHarry Houdini .Appleton and Neenah school districts each received a 5-Star (Gold) rating by Expansion Management magazine’s ranking of metrowide public school systems, scoring 98 out of a possible 100 percent.
Fox Valley Technical College is ranked among the top five such colleges in the nation, mostnotably for its distinguished programs in law enforcement, security and safety, flexographicprinting and the culinary arts.
Lawrence University, located on the eastern edge of Downtown Appleton, earned recognition as one of U.S. News and World Report’s top 50 liberal arts colleges in the country.
