American Academy of Physician Assistants

The American Academy of Physician Assistants is the largest professional organization of physician assistants in the United States of America. It was founded in 1968 and currently has approximately 39,000 members in all 50 states, District of Columbia, US Virgin Islands and Northern Marianas.The AAPA's mission, from its current mission statement:

The mission of the American Academy of Physician Assistants is to promote quality, cost-effective, accessible health care, and to promote the professional and personal development of physician assistants.

Organization

The AAPA consists of 57 chapters from each state territory, and federal entity that licenses PAs.It is governed by an elected board of directors, and each chapter is eligible to send delegates to the House of Delegates, which is convened at the annual convention.In addition , there are several interest group caucuses and congresses that are recognized by the Academy, as well as specialty organizations.
