Socialist Action (Canada)
- Socialist Action (Canada)
Socialist Action is a Trotskyist political group in Canada. It is aligned with the US group of the same name and is in "solidarity with" the reunified Fourth International but is not recognized by the FI as a sympathetic group. The Canadian Socialist Action is led by Barry Weisleder and was formed in 1994 after Weisleder was expelled from Socialist Challenge (the Canadian section of the reunified Fourth International). Many of its members belonged to the Revolutionary Workers League and either left or were expelled when the RWL rejected Trotskyism in the early 1980s. The group participates in labour unions, in campaigns against war, environmental destruction, poverty, racist and sexist oppression, in solidarity with Cuba and Venezuela, as well as in the labour-based New Democratic Party through its leadership of the Socialist Caucus which it founded in 1998.
