Petrer is a town located in the
comarca ofVinalopó Mitjà , in the province of Alicante,Spain . It has an area of 104.2 km² and, according to the 2003 census, a total population of 31,255 inhabitants and apopulation density of 299.66 inhab/km². Petrer joins together with the city ofElda to form a conurbation with over 85,000 inhabitants. The river Rambla de los Molinos ("Riverbed of the Mills"), a tributary of the riverVinalopó , runs through the urban area of Petrer.The economy of Petrer is based on the industries of
footwear ,fur s,plastic s,construction materials andpottery . The most important monuments in Petrer are theCatholic church of "San Bartolomé" (Saint Bartholomew ), theArab castle and the hermitages of "San Bonifacio" and "Christ".
