R&R (military)

R&R, military slang for rest and relaxation (or rest and recreation), is a term used for the free time of a military man in the US military or UN Volunteers (UNV). R&R take and have taken various forms, including mail, sports, film screenings, using the services of prostitutes and leave time.

Mail

Mail from and to soldiers is military mail. Dear John Letters and letters from family are common.

Playboy

Playboy is "proud to support the troops" of the United States. Their activities go back to Playmate Jo Collins's Tour for United Service Organizations in a helicopter during the Vietnam War. Prostitution

In South Korea during the 1960s saw the effective institution of "camp towns" around the US bases, where brothels were allowed to operate unfettered.
