In 1983 Rhea was the recipient of the Florida Society of Historic Preservation Award for her leadership in the restoration of the historic building that became Florida House. While in Washington, Chiles was President of the Congressional Wives' Group, and Chairman of the Ladies of the U.S. Senate First Lady's Luncheon.

Education

Chiles was educated in Dade County public schools and at the University of Florida. While at the UF she was a member of The Florida Alligator staff and president the Alpha Delta Pi SororityFact|date=November 2007 as well.
