Blue Air is a
low-cost airlinebased in Bucharest, Romania. It started operations in December 2004and operates services to European destinations. Its main base is Aurel Vlaicu International Airport, Bucharest's smaller airport, also known as Bucharest Băneasa Flight International27 March 2007] .
At its founding, it also operated a domestic
Bucharest- Timişoaraflight, though this was discontinued in March 2005due to low demand and competition from TAROMas well as rail travel. Blue Air began domestic flights to Cluj Napoca International Airportfrom Buchareston 29 October 2006, operated with a Boeing 737. The newest Blue Air destination is Malagain Spain. Now in 2008 Blue Air operates scheduled flights to the following destinations:- Italy: Turin(Cuneo), Venice(Treviso), Verona(Villafranca),Bologna(Marconi) and Rome(Fiumicino)- Spain: Madrid(Barajas), Valencia(Manises), Barcelona(El Prat), Malaga- France: Paris(Beauvis), Lyon(St. Exupery)- Germany: Cologne(Bonn), Stuttgart, Berlin(Schonefeld)- Cyprus: Larnaka - Great Britain: London(Stansted)Usual charter destinations flown by Blue Air are: - Greece: Rhodos, Iraklion and Corfu- Turkey: Bodrum and AntalyaThe company was one of the cheapest air carrier as of November 2006to service Bucharest and other Romanian cities (until other air carriers like Wizz Air, Germanwings, MyAiror Easy Jetstarted to operate in Romania). It frequently offers deals on well-traveled routes whereby one can purchase tickets to major European cities in a fairly open window of time for only 1 or 2 euros plus tax. Blue Air offers free tickets from Cluj to Bucharest and back if one purchases a roundtrip ticket from Bucharest to any other city outside of Romania, giving those from Cluj the same destinations at the same price as those from the capital. Because of the competition Blue Air met at
Cluj Napoca International Airportit decided to end all their services from this airport. Competition came from TAROM(Bucharest, Madrid and Barcelona) and Wizz Air(Barcelona) on the Spain flights.
