Air Greece was established in
1994 byCretan businessmen and started operations inthe same year using two leasedATR72 turboprops on domestic routes. In April1997 a third ATR72 was added to the fleet, followed by the lease of twoFokker 100's in Mayand June1999 . Delivery of the Fokkers marked the inernational expansion of thecompany and new routes to destinations inGermany were opened.In 1999, passenger
ferry companyMinoan Lines acquired a 51% stake in AirGreece. However, at that time Air Greecewas facing strong competition fromAegean Airlines ,Cronus Airlines andOlympic Airlines , forcing it to begin a cooperation with Aegean which endedin a full takeover by Aegean in December, 1999.Services
