Early days: 1999–2002
Jacob Cooper's music recordings began as early as 1999, when he received a four-track for Christmas at the age of 12. The following couple of years were spent recording various guitar and drum-based demos, going as far as creating "15-minute symphonies of random shit", Cooper once stated. [ [http://www.statepress.com/issues/2007/10/17/style/702298 Sound: New Tricks] ] Around the age of 15, he toured as a drummer and played live shows with a short-lived garage band called The Harps. The band eventually split up, and he began producing music as a solo project under Bark Bark Bark.
Independent recordings and tours: 2003–2006
During mid-2004, an album named "Worst Dotted Line" was recorded with collaborator and close friend Michael Fay. [ [http://www.southern.com/southern/band/BARKB/biog.php Bark Bark Bark biography] ] The record was self-released via Castle of Sound, a collective group started by Cooper as a way to promote music and art together as one subject. [ [http://www.castleofsound.net/ ABOUT CASTLE OF SOUND] ] The following year in 2005, Cooper recorded a demo cassette called "Noose and a Fire" and sold it throughout his touring and shows as Anne Frankenstein. Along with "Worst Dotted Line", no more copies were distributed for the release and the album was ultimately "forgotten" by Cooper. Notably, the only digital promotion "Noose and a Fire" ever received was through a compilation of art videos directed and produced by Adam Cooper-Terán, Cooper's brother. [ [http://www.manymouths.org/antral/video/imneedy/barkbarkbark_mirror.html ANNE FRANKENSTEIN (RIP): THE LOST MUSIC VIDEOS] ] Several tracks from both "Worst Dotted Line" and "Noose and a Fire" were later re-recorded for the release of "Haunts", while the other songs remained unreleased.
Throughout his last few teen years, Cooper went through a string of regional tours and gigs gaining a dedicated fanbase and generating online buzz via
MySpace and other internet social communities. In mid-2006, a digitally-released EP called "Hott Summer Traxx " was up for download throughout Bark Bark Bark's web pages, featuring various demos and collaborations with musicians and friends of Cooper's. The EP also marked the first release on Cooper's independent booking management/cassette label, All My Friends Are Gold. Later in the year, he announced that theLos Angeles -based record labelRetard Disco had signed Bark Bark Bark. Recording sessions for the first studio album, "Haunts ", began shortly after.Breakthrough success with "Haunts": 2007
"Haunts" was released on
May 22 ,2007 , and gained Bark Bark Bark a significant amount of attention throughout the country, primarily making a scene throughout the internet music blog community. Various internet blogs wrote and hyped the record, [ [http://audiversity.com/2007/05/post-for-wednesday-16may07.html New Music: Bark Bark Bark, Juho Kahilainen] ] [ [http://obscuresound.com/?p=1057 Bark Bark Bark “Haunts” In Debut] ] [ [http://www.stereogum.com/archives/mp3/new-bark-bark-bark-haunts.html New Bark Bark Bark - "Haunts"] ] adding onto the already vigorous promotion the album was getting via Retard Disco, Terrorbird Media, Southern Distribution, and Cooper's touring. Several college radio stations across the country also responded very well to tracks off "Haunts" by including them into their daily rotation. The live line-up for gigs and shows during this time included Michael Sanger, Johnnie Munger (also known by his music projectpseudonym , Milk:Blood), Lisa Warman, and several other close friends. After touring for "Haunts" slowed down in late 2007, Cooper began working with Panache Booking and prepped plans for early 2008, while taking free time to begin work on the next Bark Bark Bark record and remix several of his friend's bands. On
October 18 , he announced that the Arizona-based metal bandJob for a Cowboy would be using eight instrumental Bark Bark Bark tracks as segues between songs throughout their upcoming tour sets, most notably the 2007 Radio Rebellion Tour with Behemoth, Gojira andBeneath the Massacre .
