Cezerye

Cezerye
A plate of Cezerye

Cezerye is a semi-gelatinous Turkish confectionery made from carrot, fig or date purée, packed with nuts or pistachios and sprinkled with shredded coconut. Cut into roughly 1" x 1.5" rectangular chips and served on special occasions, it is somewhat akin to Turkish Delights and the Chinese walnut candy known as hetao tang. It is traditionally believed to be an aphrodisiac. The name is derived from the word "cezer", which means "carrot" in Arabic.
