Plot summary

It begins to rain heavily in Quahog, which soon begins to experience flash floods; as a result, the entire ground floor of the Griffins' house begins to fill with water and they need to evacuate. Before the family can do that, however, Peter makes Meg go into the kitchen to retrieve a case of beer (and make a sandwich while she was at it), but the refrigerator is mostly submerged by this time. Meg is forced to go underwater, where her shirt snags onto one of the fridge racks. As she begins to drown, Peter goes into the kitchen at Lois' urging and (eventually) rescues her. At the hospital, the family is informed that Meg has fallen into a coma, causing Peter to reflect on all the horrible things he's done to her in his life and promises to make it up to her if she ever recovers. She eventually does awaken, and Peter begins making good on his promise by showing her extra kindness and promising to do whatever he can to make her happy (even beating up Connie D'Amico). However, when Meg announces that she wants to start going out with her new boyfriend Michael Milano, a med student at a hospital to whom she awoke—Peter grows very distrustful and overprotective, fearing he may be a rapist or not even a man.

Peter worries that all Michael will care about is sex, but Meg argues otherwise and restates that going out with him is what she wants. Lois suggests that Peter talk to Michael and get to know him better. He does and, after apparently warming up to him, allows Meg to go out. However, Peter still feels distrustful of him and spies on them during one of their dates. Michael feels uncomfortable and feels that he should break off their relationship, which upsets Meg.

Later, Meg shocks the family when she announces that she's pregnant. Peter concludes that the only thing to do is force Michael to marry her, and heads to his house (with a shotgun) telling Meg he will just talk to him; however, after learning of Meg's pregnancy, Michael turns out to be completely willing. Meg decides to go through with it, not wanting to go through an abortion, until the wedding ceremony, where she reveals to Lois that she's just found out she's not actually pregnant—instead, she had her period and assumes she read the pregnancy test wrong. Lois suggests that Meg tell Michael the truth, and says that if Michael really cares about her, he will still understand and stay. When she tells him, however, Michael bails out completely without a word; Peter, on the other hand, who was present at the time, feels bad about bringing Meg into this situation and apologizes about his behavior. Then, realizing that there is really nothing else to offer the television audience, Peter decides to end the episode with footage of Conway Twitty.

In a secondary plot, Stewie proposes to Brian that they buy and renovate a wrecked house and sell it to get rich. However, neither of them are able to cope with the other, and they're unable to get the job done. In the end, the two go broke and the house begins to deteriorate beyond repair, so Stewie destroys the house with explosives, leading to an extremely long house-explosion scene while Stewie and Brian jump out of the way. Stewie then realizes that they had accidentally killed an electrician they hired who was still inside the house when it exploded.

Censorship

*On the part where Stewie is convincing Brian to help him rebuild the house, the FOX version cuts immediately to Brian saying, "I'm in!" On Adult Swim, there is an extra scene where Stewie says that rebuilding the house will be better than Bob Saget convincing women to date him, followed by a cutaway of Bob Saget telling a woman that he'll give her $5000 if she says that he still matters. (Incidentally, an Adult Swim rerun of this episode was shown on the same night as the premier of the "Comedy Central Roast of Bob Saget").
*When Peter is grilling Michael on his intentions with Meg, on Adult Swim, he tells him that his daughter's womb is "not a wildfire for [him] to douse with [his] adolescent seed. Neither is her lower back or her hair." On FOX, the "lower back/hair" line is cut due to the obvious male ejaculation joke.

Reception

On the Fox network, the first airing of the episode received a 4.7/10 Nielson rating/share. [ [http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117976586.html?categoryid=10&cs=1 'Dancing' dynamite on Monday - Entertainment News, Front Page, Media - Variety ] ]

Notes

Cultural references

* Tom Tucker sings the words, "Gonna tell us all about the rain," to the tune of the Asian Riff.
* Peter mentions the television show "Scrubs"; this is the third time "Family Guy" has referenced this show. He also hopes to see "Black Scrubs," a reference to Dr. Turk. Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan write for Family Guy and Scrubs.
* Peter mentions how much of a bastard Fred Flintstone is; the scene then cuts to Fred wanting to separate from Wilma Flintstone for a number of reasons, including the memorable scene that was always shown during the closing credits of "The Flintstones".
* Brian says that he can hear "mice humping" in the walls of the wrecked house, the mouse's moans sounding like those of Mickey Mouse.
* The Sanka commercial is a reference to the Fanta drink.
* An action figure of The Iron Giant and a doll used in court cases involving child molestation are on the top of Meg's wedding cake.
* The film "Aliens" is referenced, with the Queen Xenomorph at the end of the movie confronting Ripley and Newt. It is voiced by Mike Henry using his voice as Bruce the Performance Artist.
* Michael gives Meg a Maroon 5 CD, because he'd heard her say that she likes terrible music.
* The multiple explosions of the house is a reference to the exploding house scene from the film "Kiss Me Deadly"; the scene goes so far as to show different angles of the same explosion 35 times in a row, lasting about 20 seconds.
* Early Pepto-Bismol commercials are referenced when Peter says "my stomach says Indigestion!" and then says "even though I have Diarrhea!"
*Jodie Foster appears and is seen in a cutaway scene, and shows her lesbianism.
* When Brian is talking with Stewie over a walkie-talkie, Stewie forces Brian to say "over" like Will Smith did with Eva Mendes in the movie Hitch. This leads to an argument between the two over whether it is appropriate to end with "over" when the last word in the sentence is also "over."
* Peter says at a point when Meg is in a coma that he has been a worse father than Abraham; the scene cuts to Abraham walking with his son Isaac down a mountain and Isaac stating, "You wanna tell me what the fuck that was?" (the word "fuck" is censored during broadcasts)
* "I'm Rich and You're Poor, but Let's Dance Together" was a parody of "Step Up" and similar films.
* When Michael proposes to Meg, Peter says "This is sweeter than 72 virgins waiting for a suicide bomber." A suicide bomber is then shown in heaven with 72 male nerds who are playing . He curses Osama Bin Laden for getting him killed.

References to previous episodes

* When Stewie saying "Knock knock," and whispering in Brian's ear is a combination of two different gestures he performed in the episodes "" and "Stewie Loves Lois".
* At the end of the episode, Peter introduces (a piece of footage of) Mr. Conway Twitty to entertain the wedding audience; this occurred twice in the episode "Bill and Peter's Bogus Journey".
* When Chris tries to pair Meg with some of his friends, he then says he doesn't have any. He has been shown to have friends in episodes such as "Running Mates", "Prick Up Your Ears", and "You May Now Kiss the...Uh...Guy Who Receives".
* At the part when Stewie and Brian try to repair the house, Brian says there are mice still humping in the walls. The voices they make is the copyright-infringed Peter Mouse from the episode "A Hero Sits Next Door".
