Netaji Subhash Vidyaniketan

Netaji Subhash Vidyaniketan is a higher secondary school of Tripura, a state in north-east India. It is located in Agartala, the capital of Tripura. Netaji Subhash Vidyaniketan, also known as NSV, offers courses from the 1st standard till the 12th standard. The school is named after the famous freedom fighter of Indian independence movement, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

History

Netaji Subhash Vidyaniketan was established in 1948. The founding patrons of the school were inspired by the ideologies of the Indian freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Their means were modest, but their goal was lofty: to set up a school that would instill in its students the courage and selflessness that Netaji envisioned for a free India. The first headmaster of the school was Mr. Satinath Bharadwaj and the first Secretary of managing committee of the school was Late Gopi Ballav Saha. In its initial days, the school catered to the young children of many families that had migrated to Agartala after the partition of India. Subsequently, NSV flourished under the leadership of Mr. Hirendranath Nandi. Mr. Nandi was an eminent educationist and a devout Netajian who devoted his life in turning the school from a small run-of-the-mill primary school to a center of excellence in school-level education in the north-eastern region of India. For his contributions to education and teaching, Mr. Nandi was conferred the prestigious President of India Gold Medal.

The early years of the school saw a lot of struggle – the school started with a hundred odd students in a small hut. For lack of classrooms, many classes used to take place in open-air, under the shadows of adjacent trees. In the early 1950s, the local cinema hall (now called "Rupashi") owner was kind enough to let students take the benches from the hall to the school for using in the class room, provided they returned the same after the classes so that the evening cinema shows could be screened. Gradually, the school grew from strength to strength to become one of the most sought after schools among the aspiring students in the state. Today, NSV has over 1500 students, and classes are held in a nicely architectured two-storey building.

Every year, the school celebrates the birthday of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on 23 January in a grand manner. The students take part in a three hour long colourful procession that marches through the main streets of Agartala. Thousands of people, including young children, throng all along the route to get a glimpse of the procession. The procession consists of cultural events performed by the students of every class. Netaji's message and ideals are spread through various performance.

Education

The education offered by the school has a blend of cultural learning, sports and physical fitness teachings along with the more commonplace science, history and literature teachings. In the junior classes, a lot of emphasis is placed on cultural events along with academics.

The school is well known for its academics. The school ensures that the students remain focused in their academics all along the year. The students of NSV have all along excelled in the various competitive exams, quiz contests etc. Year after year, the students who graduate from NSV have joined the premier engineering, medical, science, and law colleges in the country. Many of them today hold eminent positions in various private and government organisations all over the world.

Foundation Day

3rd march is the foundation day of school.On that day there is cultural programe in the "Sanskrti Bhavan" of school.

Current Status

Currently, Mr. Tapan Chakraborty is the Headmaster of the school. The students have achieved excellent results in the Board Examination. In the merit list of Tripura Board of Secondary Education, 5 students in Higher Secondary and 10 students in Secondary level has secured a place.
