The first Cape Verdeans immigrated to Argentina in small numbers in the late 1800s. The numbers increased dramatically from the 1920s to World War II. They were driven from Cape Verde by lack of jobs, resources, and opportunities. Most of the immigrants settled near water in sea related occupations. Many face discrimination in the predominantly European-Argentine society. It should be noted the Cape Verdean are the only Afro-Argentines who arrived in the country voluntarily.

Two organizations have existed for more than 60 years. The Society Of Mutual Aid "The Cape Verdean Union" of Dock-Sud (South Dock) was founded in 1932 and the Cape Verdean Sport And Culture Club of Ensenada was founded around the same period.
