Sforzando (band)

Sforzando (band)

Sforzando are a band from Melbourne, Australia who describe themselves as a "7-piece pirate orchestra" (fans usually refer to them simply as a "pirate band"). Their musical style combines elements of punk, Western European folk music and sea shanties to create "a soundscape for the ocean", and there is a notable Irish influence on their sound, though they have recently delved into the world of psych folk as well. They mostly perform live at venues in Melbourne but also regularly tour various music festivals around Australia. Their current line-up consists of:

*Quincy Hall (Vocals)
*Raju Sharma (Percussion)
*Scott Jansen (Violin)
*Paul Tierney (drums)
*Dave O'Reilly (Guitar)
*Garth Heron (Bass guitar)
*Sharon Ryan (Guitar)

"Sforzando" is a word used in musical notation to indicate that the following note should be played loudly, and the band chose this name to match their loud, frenetic punk rock style. (For more on "sforzando" and other musical terms, see Dynamics (music).)
