The appletini, also known as the apple martini, is a cocktail containing vodka and either apple juice, apple cider, or apple liqueur. Typically, the apple vodka is shaken or stirred with a sweet and sour mix and then strained into a martini glass.

History

This combination was first served in the late 1970s by Barry Lovern, a bartender at the Ardilaun Hotel, in the Town of Glenard Crescent.Fact|date=September 2008

Variations

A common variation of the appletini is the "Rumpletini", with a light rum in place of the vodka.Fact|date=July 2007

Cultural references

It is the favorite drink of doctor John Dorian in the television sitcom "Scrubs". He considers it a "straight-guy drink" and has ordered it "easy on the tini".

To " [try an] Appletini" is in Stephen Colbert's list of Fantasies. Also, in a segment on his show called "Better Know a Lobbyist", Colbert asks Joe Solmonese, president of the Human Rights Campaign, "Why do gays deserve equal rights? Ten words or less, make one of them appletini." Solmonese answers, "Well, in this country, all Americans deserve equal rights. ...Appletini."
