Mio Card is a company that sells prepaid debit cards; Mio Card works with Capital City Bank in Tallahassee, Florida to provide these cards. They are FDIC insured. Consumers can elect to have their paychecks direct deposited onto the Mio Card; the company does provide the consumer with a bank account number and routing number for direct deposit purposes only. Their website provides a "blank check" to print off and submit with payroll direct deposit paperwork when a voided check is requested for verification. Mio Card does charge a small fee each month for their services, approximately $3.50 per month. There are also 50 cent withdrawal fees, though this can be avoided by getting cash back when at the grocery store. Safeway Carrs charges $5 to reload this card. The Mio Card can also be used as a one time purchase, something that can be used as a gift (e.g. for a graduating high school senior. This card can be used as either a debit or credit card, but since it is a Prepaid card the consumer cannot make the account go negative, and as a result there are no "over the limit" fees. Once the Mio Card has slid through the card swipe and used to purchase an item, the cost of the item is immediately deducted from the available balance on the card. So unlike other credit cards, the Mio Card, being a Prepaid card means the consumer cannot spend more than they actually have.
