As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 1,536 people, 619 households, and 417 families residing in the village. Thepopulation density was 1,586.7 per square mile (611.4/km²). There were 641 housing units at an average density of 662.2/sq mi (255.1/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 96.35% White, 0.46% African American, 0.52% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.65% from other races, and 1.69% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.34% of the population.There were 619 households out of which 36.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.9% were married couples living together, 13.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.5% were non-families. 29.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.07.
In the village the population was spread out with 27.5% under the age of 18, 10.9% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 19.5% from 45 to 64, and 11.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 89.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.5 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $40,804, and the median income for a family was $49,135. Males had a median income of $33,011 versus $21,950 for females. The
per capita income for the village was $17,689. About 9.2% of families and 10.5% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 14.7% of those under age 18 and 4.7% of those age 65 or over.References
