oldies formatMichael Futch, "Gospel to Replace Nostalgia As Radio Stations Are Sold," "The Fayetteville Observer", January 11, 2006.] and was known as "Solid Gold 105.7 [Larry Cheek, "Disc Jockey Dudes," "The Fayetteville Observer," March 26, 1992.] ."In 1993, Sound Business, which was 50 percent owned by Arthur DeBerry and Associates, owned WGQR and
WBLA (AM) . Lee Hauser, who owned the other 50 percent of Sound Business and served as its president, began managing WJSK and WAGR inLumberton, North Carolina when the DeBerry company bought those stations. Morning host Dan Hester, who had worked atWWAY , replaced Hauser as station manager for WGQR and WBLA [Jay Woodard, "Radio Stations' Sales Under Way," "The Fayetteville Observer", August 25, 1993.] . WGQR and WBLA both aired the Bladen County high school football game of the week ["Football Fills Airwaves Across Region Again," "The Fayetteville Observer", August 26, 1993.] .In 2004,
Beasley Broadcasting tried to buy the stations, but theFederal Communications Commission disallowed the purchase because Beasley would own too many stations in the market. On January 11, 2006, the sale of WGQR and WBLA to Christian Listening Network, owner ofWCLN (AM) andWCLN-FM was completed WGQR switched to its current format, and WBLA, already ablack gospel station part of the time, would begin airing some of the WCLN programming.As of 2008, former WGQR on-air talents, Kace Evers, Buddy Edwards and Don Arnsan continue to work at their sister station, WBLA as popular radio air talents.WBLA is a format of "All Hit Radio" Oldies and Carolina Beach Music. Don Arnsan continues to do afternoon drive with weather updates from Caroline the weather girl. Buddy Edwards returned to the air at WBLA in July 2008 to do the morning show. Kace Evers continues doing mid-days on the air and serves as the production manager of the station.
