- Nottingham Exchange Students Society
The Nottingham Exchange Students Society is a student-run
society at theUniversity of Nottingham [ [http://www.students-union.nottingham.ac.uk/activities/activities_societies_info.php?id=165 Home ] ] , the only one designed to enrich the experiences of international students on exchange programs such asErasmus andSocrates .About
NESS organises trips to various cities around the
United Kingdom - some for a day, some overnight and some for a weekend - with the intention of showing members parts of the Union that they might otherwise not get to experience. The society really came to life in 2006 with its most successful year yet, starting with a day trip to Oxford [ [http://www.bugbitten.com/blogs/Europe/maroons/Oxford_Trip.html Oxford Trip | Oxford travel blog by Mindy ] ] [ [http://www.bugbitten.com/blogs/Europe/debi/Oxford_darhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhling.html bugbitten.com ¤ Home ] ] .
In 2006, NESS was introduced into the
Erasmus Student Network [http://www.isc.cvut.cz/incommon/rservice.php?akce=tisk&cisloclanku=2006030901] of similar societies. The society has received acclaim from the University's International Office, and is the only such program in place for international students in Nottingham. This seems strange given the huge cultural diversity in the city [ [http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/public-affairs/press-releases/index.phtml?menu=pressreleases&code=BOLL-70/04&create_date=18-may-2004 Press Releases - Media and Public Relations Office - The University of Nottingham ] ] .Despite great success throughout the year, the society was passed over for awards at the 2006-2007 Societies Annual Awards [ [http://www.students-union.nottingham.ac.uk/activities/activities_societies_awards.php Home ] ] .

Day trips often cost around £7 whereas a full weekend to

Full membership costs £5 which goes into subsidising the cost of the day trips and funding social events. Each year the society receives a grant from the Students' Union. In the academic year 2007-2008, that money is helping to subsidise the activities of over 400 members.
