List of National Historic Landmarks in Tennessee

Following is a list of sites and structures in Tennessee that have been designated National Historic Landmarks (NHLs). There are 27 NHLs located entirely in the state, and one that includes elements in both Tennessee and Mississippi. Two former NHLs, whose designations were withdrawn, are also listed. All NHLs are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). An overview of other historic sites, including National Park Service-administered areas listed on the NRHP, is also included.

Non-NHL historic places

The NHLs in Tennessee listed above include many of the more important historic sites in the state.Tennessee holds other preserved historic places, notably including six National Park Service areas listed on the NRHP. These NPS areas are:
*Andrew Johnson National Historic Site, established as a National Monument in 1935 and redesignated a National Historic Site in 1963,
*Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park (shared with Georgia), established 1890,
*Cumberland Gap National Historical Park (shared with Kentucky and Virginia), established 1940,
*Fort Donelson National Battlefield, established 1928,
*Shiloh National Military Park, established 1894, and
*Stones River National Battlefield, established 1927.All of these National Park Service areas were established before the NHL program was started in 1960. There is little overlap between the NHLs and these sites: only the Indian mounds that happen to lie within the Shiloh National Military Park is separately designated as an NHL.

There are 42 state historic sites.
