Vada Tirumullaivayil is a
Padal petra stalam located in theChennai -Avadi road,India . The temple is incarnated by the hymns of Sundarar, Ramalinga Adigalar and Arunagirinathar.History
In ancient times, the forest surrouding Tirumullaivayil was occupied by two Kurumbars named Vanan and Onan. King Thondaiman who was the emperor there try to end the atrocities by waging a war against them. En route to the war, his elephant's leg was surrounded by 'Mullai' shrebs. The king while cutting those found blood oozing out of it and later found that it is the Lords blood. He then ordered to build a temple for Masilmaninathar.
It is believed that the Lord supported him in destroying the Kurumbars by sending the Nandi. The unique feature of the temple is the Nandi facing east ward against Lord Shiva. Also this is one of the few temples where the positions of the Lords are interchanged. This is believed to be because of the urgency in providing darshn to the king.

All the buses plying to Avadi via Ambattur will stop at Tirumullaivayil. The temple is at a walkable distance from the bus stop. Tirumullaivayil has its own rail head which is on the Central - Tiruvallur line.
Festivals
Every year in the month of Chittirai, on Sadaya nakshatra, the Santhana kappu is refurbished with Veru kappu. This is believed to be the treatment for the blood that oozed out because of the king's attack.
