Chapra ( _bn. চাপড়া) is a town with a police station, a community development block, and an assembly constituency in Nadia district in the Indian state of West Bengal.

Demographics

In the 2001 census, Chapra community development block had a population of 272,284 out of which 140,400 were males and 131,884 were females. Politics

Shamsul Islam Mollah of CPI(M) won the Chapra assembly seat defeating his nearest rivals, Abdur Rashid Mollick of INC in 2006 and Julfikar Khan of AITC in 2001. Mir Quasem Mondal of CPI(M) defeated Julfikar Khan representing INC in 1996, and Arun Kumar Ghosh of INC in 1991. Mir Qusem of CPI(M) defeated Dilip Dutta of INC in 1987. Sahabauddin Mondal of CPI(M) defeated Arun Biswas (Independent) in 1982 and Kazi Safluddin of JNP in 1977. [cite web
