- Phoenix hardcore
Phoenix had a sizable
hardcore punk scene in the 1980's that focused mainly around three bands from the city's east side, theFeederz ,Meat Puppets andJFA .Meat Puppets , led by the Kirkwood brothers, Curt and Cris, signed toGreg Ginn 'sSST Records and released several albums that proved to be highly influential on groups like Nirvana.Other bands include
Sun City Girls , Desecration, The Zany Guys, Junior Achievement, O.N.S. (Our Neighbors Suck), andMighty Sphincter .That scene, limited to only a few
gay bar s and punk clubs in run-down neighborhoods, was largely over by1986 , however a small but dedicated scene continued to thrive in relative obscurity throughout the late 80s- mid 90s.Currently, the Phoenix area hardcore scene has splintered into the many different subgenres that are common around the country. With the likes of Where Eagles Dare, Ready Set Die and others setting the tone for the current crop of bands including: Think Fast, Prosthetics, Red Son, Get Destroyed!, Warfair?, Speak, Run With the Hunted, The Revenge, Sigma, North Side Kings, and many others, there is no "definitive" Phoenix Hardcore sound in the late 2000s.
